A Unique Fashion Show from Dubai’s Boutique Showroom and Concept Store Cartel

Dubai’s boutique showroom and concept store Cartel takes us behind the scenes at their fashion show as part of the first Middle East Fashion Week. Fashion One host Lenka Josefiova spoke with Cartel’s creative director and co-founder Peter Richweisz about his unique store and this exciting event.

The name Cartel is intended to reflect its definition in gathering together a group of like minded people. Peter’s goal has been to curate a multi brand showroom of multi national designers, along with local designers, in order to build a community and represent the brands worldwide. Cartel’s collection incorporates more that 65 designers from all around the world, working in avant-garde and contemporary fashion.

Due to the varied nature and styles of the garments it was a challenge to construct a cohesive fashion show but Peter called on his cultural influences and experience in art to conceive a innovative ‘non linear’ fashion show. The models’ faces were covered in identical fabric masks decorated with giant anime-style eyes to show only ‘one face’ and wore miner’s head torches with which they illuminated each others outfits at they moved around the space. These glimpses of colours, cuts and textures were an exciting way to experience the cutting edge fashions and also celebrated the creativity of the group.
