Marc Jacobs’ Newest Face & the War Against Counterfeit Goods
Miley Cyrus for Marc Jacobs
21 year old American popstar Miley Cyrus is the face of Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2014 campaign. The moody campaign, lensed by British fashion photographer David Sims, features a sombre looking Miley Cyrus in sequin embellished skirts and glamorous full length gowns posing with two other models on a desolate grey-toned beach. Marc Jacobs praised the stars talent and intelligence adding "There's nothing I don't like about her".
The Fight Against Fake
Researchers at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York are devoting their energies to research how to detect counterfeit designer handbags. The team at Cornell University, lead by textile scientist Juan Hinestroza, is working on a pioneering 'sub-visual' technique where the individuals fibers in handbags will be coated with a brand's signature - invisible to the human eye - but one that can be detected or scanned to prove the veracity of the item. The team have declined to reveal who their clients are but it's common knowledge that the fashion industry has been in an ongoing war with counterfeiters, with Louis Vuitton in particular aggressively pursuing websites and merchants selling fake merchandise.
The Net-a-porter Experience To Expand
Arguably the world's biggest fashion e-commerce site Net-a-porter is set to launch a digital fashion magazine to be followed by a print version later in the year intended to compete with publications like Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. The first digital magazine - The Edit - will be published weekly and available free from the Net-a-porter site, while its yet to be named print edition will make its debut in the fall and is to be released four to six times per year.
