FashionOne talks all things James Franco. From actor to filmmaker to teacher.
James Franco was born on April 19, 1978 in Palo Alto, California and dropped out of college after his first year to pursue a career in acting. His first role was the lead character in short-lived cult hit TV show Freaks and Geeks before going on to play the lead character in the made-for-television film James Dean in 2001, where he won his first Golden Globe Award. Since then, Franco has starred in a number of movie blockbusters including Spider-Man, 127 Hours, Pineapple Express, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Oz the Great and Powerful, Spring Breakers and This is the End. If that wasn’t enough, he’s also got a string of awards under his belt including the aforementioned Golden Globe, an Academy Award, an Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. James is also well known for his “bromance” with actor and producer Seth Rogen. The two have often been seen on screen together, as well as appearing on TV and web shows and sketches together, including the popular spoof of Kanye West’s latest single “Bound 2.”
Franco has been the face of Gucci for a number of years—an accolade that goes hand-in-hand with his heartthrob status. Throughout his successful career Franco has also been an active philanthropist volunteering for lots of charity organizations. In 2013, James’ career took a twist when he began teaching a course in short film production and screenwriting at the University of Southern California. An actor, director, author and now teacher … We can’t wait to see what’s next for James Franco.
