Gaultier’s Final Pret-a-Porter and Frozen-Inspired Wedding Gowns
A cultural dispatch from the desks of the Fashion One office with host Tiffany Schultz. The influential French designer Jean Paul Gaultier has announced his upcoming ready-to-wear show, will be his last, and this final prêt-à-porter collection will be shown at Paris Fashion Week on September 27.
Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily about the decision, Gaultier lamented, “Commercial constraints, as well as the frenetic pace of collections, don’t leave any freedom nor the necessary time to find fresh ideas and to innovate.” Jean Paul Gaultier will instead focus his considerable talents on his haute couture and perfume line. The wildly successful Disney 3-D animated film Frozen has lead to an unexpected collaboration with wedding and bridesmaid gown design Alfred Angelo, who has produced a dress inspired by the snow queen character, Elsa. The dress will debut at International Bridal Week in New York and will be available at Alfred Angelo stores in the U.S. and specialty retailers worldwide.
Celebrity and beauty photographer Russell James, famous for his documentation of Victoria’s Secret models, has released a new collection of Victoria’s Secret models in various states of undress. James stated that “simply shooting a nude photograph is easy. However, accepting the trust of a woman to be at her most vulnerable, and delivering in return a tasteful photograph that she herself can admire is extremely difficult.”
One of the world’s most in-demand models Cara Delevingne has been cast as the female lead in the highly anticipated upcoming mystery film Paper Towns. The movie is based on the novel by young adult novelist John Green whose previous book-to-film adaptation was the blockbuster hit, The Fault In Our Stars.
