California Dreamin’ at Iceberg’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection
“Summer, super summer!” and “Palm Springs, Californian summery feeling” are two phrases that Italian luxury fashion house Iceberg chose to describe their Spring/Summer 2015 Collection. Creative designer Paolo Gerani’s “California dreamin’” was manifested in bold bursts of color and bright, beach-ready sandals and hair worn loose and natural.
Showcased at Milan Fashion Week this September, the collection reflected Iceberg’s sense of fun more than anything else. High-waisted, tailored suits in a choice of head-to-toe floral, hot pink or incandescent red with orange trim promised that smart dressing need never be drab dressing, while conspicuous slogans and statement-making asymmetric separates guaranteed that the Iceberg woman would not go unnoticed.
The collection was not all bright colors, however—as the catwalk continued the palette tended towards monochrome. The “active city woman” that Iceberg targets would be equally at home dressed in sharp, graphic black and white or in knitwear decorated with a large passion fruit. Known first and foremost as a knitwear specialist, Iceberg’s knitwear continues to have a great impact on the catwalk.
Paolo Gerani explains his collection in terms of a fantasy: fuchsia and orange are a video game heroine’s apparel colors, and the move to monochrome later in the catwalk is a method of “structuring the fantasy.” Structuring the fantasy aptly describes the essence of this collection that is rich with color and embellishment redolent of a vivid Californian summer dream.
