LA AWARD SEASON!: Celebs On File 165



The 2014 award season continues in full swing with the 56th Grammy Awards nominees announced in a lavish, live concert in downtown Los Angeles. Jay Z earned nine nominations followed closely by Matthew Moore, Ryan Lewis and Justin Timberlake with seven. Elsewhere in L.A., Jane Lynch, star of Glee among a host of other film projects, received special recognition at an awards event for The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention help for gay, lesbian and transgender youth.

Hollywood royalty Cate Blanchett and Martin Sheen were among the stars present to launch the 10th International Dubai Film Festival. 73-year-old Sheen, famed for his role in Apocalypse Now and cult TV series The West Wing, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, and the self-effacing actor played down the honor as “all part of a journey.” The L.A. premiere of Saving Mr. Banks, a biopic about Walt Disney starring Tom Hanks, was held at Disney Studios. Other cast members in attendance included Emma Thompson and Colin Farrell, among others. Also in L.A., Jennifer Lopez was honored with the March of Dimes Grace Kelly Award. After the ceremony, she confided in Fashion One about the the joy she finds in motherhood and the sense of satisfaction she feels raising her children.

The Screen Actors Guild nominations for Best Film were announced to glittering effect. In the film world, 12 Years a Slave earned four nominations followed by August: Osage County and Dallas Buyers Club with three nominations. In the world of television, Breaking Bad was triumphantly nominated for four awards, followed by 30 Rock, Game Of Thrones and Homeland with three nominations each. 12 Years a Slave continued to dominate at the Golden Globe nominations, with mention also going to American Hustle, Captain Phillips and Gravity, among others.
