Meanwhile, luxury good conglomerate LVMH and online retailer eBay have settled their legal dispute over the sale of counterfeit goods, and now say they are working together to prevent further counterfeiting in online markets.
In film news, director Ron Howard is slated to produce and direct a documentary about the early years of the Beatles, leading up to the legendary group’s iconic 1964 appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Authorized by Paul McCartney and scheduled to appear by the end of 2015, the film is slated to include concert footage and, naturally, numerous Beatles standards.
Toymaker Mattel is putting into production a new version of the Barbie doll based on Karl Lagerfeld, complete with the legendary designer’s characteristic sunglasses, black gloves and white ponytail.
In industry news, Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski has been named the new artistic director of Hermès’ women’s ready-to-wear line, and in music, Latin superstar Shakira has become the first artist with more than 100 million followers on Facebook, beating out Eminem and Rihanna, and earning a personal congratulations from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
