Victoria Beckham: Strong Clothes for Strong Women
"There was a baseball theme running through the collection." Victoria announced in one of her backstage interview at the New York Fashion week. And indeed she did not disappoint us. In her New York Fashion week Fall/Winter 2012 collection, she presented an obvious influence of her husband's sport. Perhaps it's inevitable to incorporate sportiness to her own work, but her style still surfaced.
The Victoria Beckham we know of is a fashionista who's fun of figure-hugging, classy dark and strong corset dresses and high heels. And in her recent collection, there may not be corsets, but there's definitely body-hugging cocktail dresses, and more!
Victoria may have found the area where she's good at. And for every collection she showed us, though it may have become less glamorous compared to her previous works, but it was more versatile, wearable and certainly brought out her own style. Her F/W 2012 collection showcased a military/sporty theme that made her feminine collection edgier. The waiting-to-be-opened unzipped zippers, which became frequent in her designs, were still present and made the dresses look sexy at the back. Above-the-knee and elbow-length dresses were dominant as well as color blocked and two-toned. There was a heavy strappings going on at the back and wide horizontal lines across each dresses. And don't forget that high neckline.
"The way the dresses are constructed, it makes you feel secured, it makes you feel confident." Victoria pointed out in one of her interviews with style.com. Undeniably, confidence can really be seen through her collection. And each piece seems a reflection of her strong and controlled personality. The dresses are heavily structured and streamlined; construction was the key on the design. Almost all the dresses have clinging effect on the body, tight on the waist and sharp on the shoulders which brought out the Victoria we know of. There were no accessories or any blings or sequins, just plains and lines that accentuates women's curves.
These collection may be the strongest yet so far, and unexpected of Victoria. She definitely ditched the high-heeled stilettos and opted for flat biker boots! Though she incorporated military and sporty details like that of the beanie hat, biker jacket and knee sock, the pieces are still feminine and powerful. Can you imagine a Victoria Beckham wearing flats? Nah.
